Shumi Shumi

“Wine company SHUMI” is one of the leaders among producers of high quality Georgian wines. In ancient Georgia, The world “Shumi” meant genuine, undiluted wine. It has long since been used as a defining term for the best wine. The logo of the company is a griffin (“Phaskunji” in Georgian mythology), which according to an ancient legend, brought the very first brunch of grapes to the people. It was from these grapes that people stared growing vines on Earth.

The main advantage if the “Wine company SHUMI” is a full circle of production in a so called “closed cycle”, implying all stages of wine-making, from growing and harvesting grapes to producing and bottling finished wine in brand-name bottles and realizing it through distinguished trading outlets with impeccable reputation.

A distinguishable feature of the company is that it started out with growing vineyards and only several later, in 2001, began bottling its own production.

Having vineyards in every micro-zone according to controlled designation of origin, “SHUMI” produces almost all types of Georgian wine from the high quality category list (analogous to Bordeaux wine AOC). In addition, the company uses its unique technology to produce “lori” brandy, “Kahetian Chacha” and “Kahetian Chacha special” grape grappas aged in oak barrels, an organic (bio) wine and an original, natural beverage made by excusive technology, named “Zigu”.

Each stage of the production process from the vineyards to the bottling is strictly controlled in compliance with The Food Safety Management System ISO 22000-2005 and HACCP certificate terms and conditions.

On July 17, 2005, for the first time in Georgian history, “SHUMI” introduced a methd of “green harvesting”, i.e. increasing the quality of grapes through artificial reduction of productivity of its vineyards.

The Company founded a vine and wine museum “Vazioni”; also first in Georgia. “SHUMI” experts have collected 294 unique, Georgian indigenous, and 92 foreign kinds of grapes there. Efforts to find rare kinds of grapes are kept on. The museum also includes and exhibition hall, which displays from ancient ages related to Georgian wine-making and viticulture.
