Fruit
In accompany with wine
In the pairing of fruit and wine, we try to find the perfect balance between each particular wine and the sweetness and acidity of the fruit, leaving the flavours of the fruit always in the background and letting the wine shine. For example, if we would pick a sweet wine and a very sweet & mature fruit, the combination wouldn’t enhance the flavours of the wine.
In summer we can find ripe strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, cherries, blackberries, currants and pomegranates. These fruits of intense red shades combine perfectly with wines of similar tones. We can pair them with rosés and young, fruity, red wines.
In The Canary Islands, a great variety of tropical fruits are sold in normal supermarkets and grocery stores. Papayas, Pitayas, Mango and Passion Fruit are easy to find and these combine very good with Moscatel and sparkling wines.
These very sweet fruits also ripen in summer and if you pick them in the perfect moment, they are just delicious. Pair them with our Padre Miguel Monje Sweet Red Wine. The aromas of past figs and its adequate acidity and light sweetness make it ideal to serve with desserts.
There’s nothing more refreshing in summer than having a slice of melon or watermelon after lunch. In Spain, it’s very usual to share a big fresh watermelon from the fridge with the family or even take it to the beach. We recommend you to pair them with a cold white wine, merging the wine’s flavours with the sugar and water of the fruit.
The acidity of fruits like oranges, grapefruits and mandarins also gets along very good with white wines. With these combinations we can appreciate entirely the citric aromas of the white wines.
