Les Grands Chais de France is a leading French producer of wines and spirits. GCF Group was founded in 1979 by Joseph Helfrich. The company’s activities encompass grape growing, bottling, packaging and marketing.
In 1984, the future industry giant installed its first wine bottling line and launched the legendary J.P. Chenet range. It won over consumers not only with its high quality and affordable price, but also with its distinctive bottle shape, which was highly unusual at the time.
Two years later, GCF Group acquired the Confidentia distillery, enabling the company to significantly increase its production volumes and expand its product range.
The next major stage in the company’s development came in 1991 with the acquisition of three production facilities in Alsace, Bordeaux and Beaujolais. Its assets in these regions continued to expand steadily until 2004. These production capabilities enabled the company to create an exceptionally broad range of beverages to suit every taste and budget, combining traditional production methods with the latest technologies.
In 2007, GCF Group collaborated with a Chilean winery to introduce wines with a distinctive Chilean aromatic profile. The company subsequently acquired production facilities in Germany and in several previously untapped wine regions of France. It also entered negotiations to acquire a production facility in Spain. The company’s production sites cover a total area of 12.8 hectares.
The company strives to create wines for a broad range of consumers rather than exclusively for professional tasters. Its core mission is therefore to produce high-quality wines for the mass market, supported by rigorous quality control at every stage.
Today, the group is one of the most influential players in the global alcoholic beverages market. It operates its own facilities in France’s major wine-producing regions, including Bordeaux, Alsace, Beaujolais and the Loire Valley.
Throughout its rapid development, Les Grands Chais de France has built an exceptionally extensive portfolio of high-quality beverages that have earned recognition from both consumers and industry professionals around the world.
Today, Les Grands Chais de France is the largest exporter of French wines. The company produces approximately 2 million bottles each day — an amount equivalent to the annual output of many French wine estates.
